What was New at the Fort for 1996.
- Thursday 19th of December
An introduction to RISC OS is now tucked away deep in the
Power section of the
site. It features images of the desktop along with explantory
text to allow newcomers to RISC OS to get a taste of what the
OS is like to use.
- Tuesday 17th of December
The entry for
Complicity
is now online.
- Tuesday 10th of December
Added a link to Aardvark in the Teleport section. This site is
well worth checking out if you are using the Internet in NZ.
Also I have freshened the links to the Culture Shock and Acorn
Demo pages. Finally I have removed the link to Justin's Links from
the Underground. Mostly because I don't think his pages is worth
visiting anymore due to the changing values it now represents.
- Monday 2nd of December
Yet more tidying to the standing collection, hopefully the last of
such till I upload the next entry into it. Also I have placed into
the Archives section a new Freeware module,
CacheCtrl, for
downloading. It provides a cache control OSCLI command for
rendering some older programs StrongARM compatible in a tidy
fashion.
- Friday 29th of November
Tidied up the entries uploaded on Monday and a few others in
the standing collection to which they belong.
- Monday 25th of November
Now uploaded are the entries for
Walking on Glass
and Espedair
Street in the Iain M. Banks standing collection.
- Friday 22nd of November
I have updated the TTA
Books page to include a short list of commonly asked questions
about these books.
- Tuesday 19th of November
Once again I am being plagued by irksome computer problems
that are requiring the servicing of my machine half a country away
from me. This has made preparing new HTML pages and entries
tricky at the best of times. Thus the delays in things
happening at the moment. However, that said, a new comment is
up in the Atrium - on
Bayblon 5 and the
patterns in it visible thus far.
- Wednesday 30th of October
Finally the cover image for Great Space Battles is in place,
completing the update of that section. For some reason doing
this cover proved most problematic due to file corruptions and
the like.
- Thursday 24th of October
The cover image for Star Liners is now in place, I was going
to add the one for Great Space Battles but it didn't survive the
journey home well corrupting for an as yet unexplained reason.
Hmph.
- Monday 21st of October
The ARM Chips page has been
updated with details about the AMULET2e processor.
- Thursday 17th of October
Due to popular demand I have included two images of the TTA Books'
cover illustrations. This is to aid in identifying the book when
hunting for it on a bookshelf somewhere.
- Tuesday 15th of October
Minor tweaks around the place. I have adjusted the front page
and tag to reflect the season again and done a few corrections
down in the Books section.
- Wednesday 9th of October
I have uploaded a new story,
Change, into the stories
section. My hard drive is still awaiting replacement so life is
going at a slow pace for a while.
- Thursday 3rd of October
The details for the 1997 Paul John Stratham Writing
Competition are now online and
available. Good luck to those people entering the competition.
Secondly my SCSI drive has started to die, again, on me. So my
computer is currently running in a reduced state meaning that
updates to the page are likely to be patchy. However the good
news is that this might give me some time to do some reading
again...
- Wednesday 25th of September
And the entry for
Canal Dreams is
now online and available.
- Monday 16th of September
Uploaded a new comment into the Atrium, an exercise in speculation
about the Borg. I have also
added into the Teleport section a
new URL in the people pages - to Laura Lemay's home pages. Well
worth a quick stop by while reading the Web.
- Tuesday 10th of September
The entry for
The Bridge
is now online.
- Monday 2nd of September
Added the entry for
Use of Weapons.
- Monday 26th of August
Added the entry for
The Wasp Factory.
I have also gone through the standing collections and removed a
few spelling, grammatical and other mistakes that were scattered
around those pages.
- Saturday 23rd of August
Did a general tidyup of the Image tags in use on the pages. All of
them now have appropriate Alt tags, even the ones that I don't want
any alternative text to be displayed for.
- Wednesday 21st of August
Udated the link to Mark Thomas' pages, due to them moving to a
new location.
- Tuesday 20th of August
Removed the 'Afterlife of Bob' entry from the Transport
section and updated the 'Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy'
link, due to that page moving.
- Monday 19th of August
An entry for The
Player of Games is now online.
- Saturday 10th of August
The ARMChips file has been
updated with more information about the ARM1 chip and what became
of the ARM4 & ARM5 cells.
- Tuesday 30th of July
I have uploaded the entry for
Whit into the
standing collection.
- Friday 26th of July
Now the entry for
'Feersum Endjinn'
is online. Also I have corrected the entry in the
Teleport section for 'Fried
Society', which has changed URLs slightly.
- Tuesday 23rd of July
The entry for
'Consider Phlebas'
is now up and in place. As well I have added a link to the
Strange Matter cartoon archive in the
Teleport section.
- Sunday 21st of July
Firstly it must be now noted that these web pages are over a year
old. Something that I must admit I wondered if I would manage to
maintain a sufficiently level of enthusiasm and interest to keep
updating them over that kind of time frame.
It seems I am well and truely addicted to the things.
As for updates I am preparing, down in the
Random Stacks a few standing
collections of details about books and authors I think worth
supporting. Spearheading this is a section of Iain M. Banks' books,
which will be updated and fleshed out over the next few days to
weeks. Also there is a section devoted to the Terran Trade
Authority Books, which is fully finished.
I hope people find this new section useful.
- Thursday 11th of July
Sorry for the delay, I have been a touch busy with things.
Part of that will be the re-opening of the Acorn archive in the
near future with, hopefully, a nice and spiffy HTML interface. The
link in the Archive section will be updated when appropriate,
not to mention news posts to the various appropriate groups.
As to what has changed. Well a few links have been trimmed
from the Transport area, much to my annoyance the 'Temple of the
Conqueror' doesn't seem to be accesible anymore. And two other
links to pages that haven't been updated in quite a while have
been removed. Finally a new comment has been uploaded,
Of Mice and Users.
- Tuesday 18th of June
A new notice has been placed on the
noticeboard.
- Tuesday 11th of June
The Archive section has now
had a heavy update to list a collection of Freeware and Shareware
software that I have had a hand in. (Mostly I wrote it.) Acorn
users are invited to peruse at their leisure.
- Friday 7th of June
Quiet tidying around the place. It is now worth flushing your
image cache of the standard tag image and reloading that. I am
toying with the idea of reflecting the current season in the tag
image and the introductory page.
Being ever mindful of the modem users out there I have now
split the Infodesk's entries up by year. So there is now a link
down the bottom of the page allowing you to go and check out the
previous year.
Finally I have added some new links into the
Teleport section.
- Tuesday 4th of June
Tweaking around the place mostly. But I have added a new form
to the Movies page so that the
really lazy have a pre-written email done for them. Also I
added alta-vista to the 'useful' section in the
teleport.
- Monday 20th of May
After a quick tidy up of various pages, in minor ways, I have
uploaded a new comment
into the Atrium - about the balkanization of the net currently
occuring.
Also I have updated the
ARMChips list to include more
details about the StrongARM processors. This seems to be a fairly
popular page with people in Intel, Sony and Hewlett Packard. So I
hope you people appreciate the update. :)
- Saturday 18th of May
After a long delay the
Endeavour pages are
available. To facilitate this I have opened a new section, the
Noticeboard, that will contain
details about various functions, events or shows I consider
noteworthy.
- Thursday 9th of May
I have added a few new links into the Teleport section. Some
of them are definitely worth checking. Also a new story has been
added to the Library.
- Monday 29th of April
Uploaded a new comment
into the Atrium.
- Monday 22nd of April
Added a new link to the Teleport
section. Due to the return of a certain SCSI card I have been a tad
busy reconfiguring everything and working my way through the
backlog of posts and CDROMs. However I have not forgotten this
site, and will be doing some more work on it soon.
- Tuesday 2nd of April
I have added two new poems to the
garden. Does anyone read these things?
Secondly I have taken the Comms centre offline. The links it
contained were mostly unuseable or had gone offline anyhow.
- Monday 1st of April
Okay, more links for ya in the
Teleport section. Also a
minor tidyup of the ARM
chips list. (Found a spelling error, noted the omission of
the 33MHz part for the ARM610 and updated the ARM7 section to
include details about the 40MHz 710 chip.)
- Monday 25th of March
I have done some tidying up of the
Wellington page. I found a
few spelling errors and corrected the odd grammatical clumsiness.
Due to continued hardware woes I am still unable to put up the
Endeavour pictures. Still I'll see what else I can rustle up in
the meantime.
- Wednesday 6th of March
Been link trimming. If you notice a few links missing it is
because they are no longer valid ones. (Odd that)
- Tuesday 5th of March
I have done some link adding to the
Teleport section. Namely
links to Outbreak, Psychobabble, System 7 and the Temple of the
Conqueror. All nice sites, although the Temple of the Conqueror
deserves extra mention as being a very nicely laid out
site. In my opinion only the Lurker's Guide surpasses it.
Furthermore I have trimmed The Spot and the Computer Cartoon
out. The Computer Cartoon is currently between sites and
unavailable. On the other hand The Spot has simply got boring,
possibly the novelty of it has worn off but I suspect more the
story is now into serious rehash territory. So out it goes...
- Monday 4th of March
My apologies for those of you awaiting updates to these pages.
Things have been a touch nasty of late, making updates tricky. By
way of explanation I have uploaded the
details for you to
read. In the meantime I will try and get around my general lack of
usual tools for doing this sort of thing and keep the pages fairly
fresh.
- Tuesday 13th of February
I have quite massively rearranged the layout of the FAQ into
friendlier bite sized chunks. This took some doing and I hope the
people out there in TV land appreciate the effort. (For the hint
impaired out there in TV land that was a request for
feedback on the FAQ.)
- Monday 5th of February
Alright, I am impressed. My nomination for the most unusual
site to have visited these pages has to go to callers from McMurdo
Sound. It is an odd feeling knowing that Antarctica is on the
net, we really do live in a world where the net goes most
anywhere.
Well a big hello to the visitors from the south. If you get
the chance, and have the inclination, I'd love to
hear from
ya.
- Friday 2nd of February
Okay, been busy as usual. It looks strongly like these pages
might be moving again in the near future. Something I am not
terribly happy about but these days of wonderful new internet
competition in NZ has it's prices. One of them is a constantly
fluctuating pricing war.
At any rate I am now looking again for a nice stable home. The
usual 'these pages have moved' warnings will be put up after the
move. Also I have pulled down the pjsbro competition page. The
deadline for entries has passed so if you are not entered by now,
you never will be for this year.
Anyways, not much else to report. I should really get back to
some FAQ modifications... Oh yeah, one final thought for you.
"The end of the world, is nought!" I'll expand on that
later.
- Monday 22nd of January
Adjusted the JPEGs in the
Wellington so that they occupy less space. The total page
is now 382 kb (or so) compared to a shade under a Mb before.
- Sunday 21st of January
Added a whole bunch of new links into the
Teleport section. Places linked
to include Planets Edge, Todays Computer Cartoon, some Atheist
links and a general URL submission page. I also have rearranged the
page slightly to catagorise things a bit more. Some of the sections
are starting to get a little large.
- Friday 19th of January
I have uploaded a new poem
and a new comment into
their respective sections. All things considered the move
seems to have gone well. Few teething troubles and from the
access logs back on central most people have caught on to the new
location.
Now that I have more space I am contemplating extending the
site a bit. Possibly a few more pictures I have taken with my
trusty camera. Definitely I want to place up the freeware
software I have written. Maybe this weekend i will have the
time to draft up the HTML for that. As always, you, the reader
is welcome to make
suggestions
as to what you want here.
- Wednesday 10th of January
Added a link to Starting Point into the Teleport section.
Generally did some tidying up of a few rough edges from the
move of pages. I tried to design these pages to be portable, and
to an extent they are, but there always seem to be a few things
that need changing.
- Sunday 7th of January
Phewww! Major reworking as I move the pages to their new home.
Because HTML 2 doesn't support a tag file system at all I had to
update every page to correct email the addresses referenced at the
bottom of my pages. Unfortunately CityNet, aka kosmos.wcc.govt.nz,
is shutting down in a few months so I thought I would wean off
their system now, while I was doing the move.
I have updated the transport page
with a few new links, namely to Argon Zark, Planet Wellington,
Sorabji's pages and a set of pages about the Reboot TV show.
Back, by semi popular demand, are the
Wellington pages. Be warned
these pages are large, at around a megabyte of total data.
1995 entries.
